I keep asking why?
WHY do you to treat me the way that you do?
What did I ever do to deserve this?
What did I ever do to you?
Have I wronged you?
And if I have, is this your way of dealing with it?
I do my best to ensure what I give you is faultless
But to you I’m just but a set of steps
You walk all over me the way it suits you

So I’m prewarning you
Before long I’ll be serving with papers
I’ll carefully jot ’em down so you’ll know
In me there is a new awareness
I’m an enlightened fool
I’m a tail that’s gradually growing a head
You treatment has taught me to how to guard my heart
I’ve learnt to build my own electric fence around my heart
I’m gently gaining my consciousness
I’m manning up to the insecurities you imposed on me
I’m gathering up my courage
Before long I’ll have enough of it to cut through your hedge of bricks
Soon and very soon, I’ll climb over it
Rest assured that when I fight my battle
I’ll not be fighting alone
The Lord wages the war on my behalf
